Prevention
Lifestyles changes are important with prevention of any disease. Start with your diet by incorporating the Mediterranean Diet which is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, olive oil and small amounts of lean meat. Red meat needs to be drastically reduced to 1-2 times a month. Better yet, stop eating red meat.
Aim of exercising 5 days a week for 30-40 minutes a day. Along with this light weights should be added to this to increase lean body mass and to help you remain in an anabolic (building) vs. a catabolic (breaking down) metabolic state.
Stop smoking and keep your consumption of alcohol to no more than 2oz of alcohol a day. If you chose to drink alcohol, red wine is a great option since it has Resveratrol, which has been shown to have cardiovascular protection, inhibit inflammation and improve gene stabilization.
Get plenty of sleep. Lack of sleep has shown to increase the risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and even cancer.
